What to Expect During Your Breast Reduction Procedure

At your breast reduction surgery appointment, you can expect a comprehensive and personalized experience centered around your well-being. The initial consultation involves a detailed discussion with your surgeon about your medical history, concerns, and aesthetic goals.

A breast reduction is performed in the operating room with the patient asleep. The incisions used vary based on the patient’s breast measurements, size and degree of ptosis (droopiness). Typically, the incision is in the shape of an “anchor” or “inverted-T,” traveling around the areola, then a vertical line down towards the breast fold, and then a portion within the breast fold. Through this incision, excess breast skin/tissue is removed, and the remaining breast tissue and nipple are re-positioned to an appropriate position using suture techniques. Occasionally, liposuction is used to provide better shape to the breast, particularly in the lateral/outer chest area.

Post-operative care instructions, recovery expectations, and follow-up appointments will be discussed to support a smooth healing process. Throughout, the focus is on your individual needs and achieving a successful and transformative breast reduction experience.

How to Prepare for your Breast Reduction

After surgery, you will wear a soft, surgical bra for 6 weeks after surgery to help minimize swelling and support the breasts.
